Career counselling is offered to prospective students and students enrolled at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE.
Career counselling support may include:
- helping you decide on your course and career pathway
- career testing - where appropriate
- providing related resources for further exploration
- providing information about QTAC and admission requirements
- helping you effectively manage your study and time and
- providing support and mediation for educational issues.

Personal counselling
On-campus personal counselling and support is offered to enrolled students at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE.
Talk to us about any problem or difficulty affecting your studies.
Issues may include:
- stress and time management
- academic concerns
- study concerns
- decision making
- examination anxiety
- depression, drug and alcohol use
- gambling issues
- traumatic events
- loneliness
- family issues
- sexuality
- bereavement
- mental health concerns
- public speaking

The counselling service provides individual sessions, group and family counselling and topical workshops.

Counsellors have broad knowledge of many community agencies and work collaboratively with them. Referrals are made to these agencies where appropriate.

Counsellors at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE provide workshops for students and faculties on request.

Liaison
Counsellors at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE will communicate on your behalf with your teachers if you require them to do so.
We will contact external departments and agencies for you upon your request.
Qualified staff
Our professional staff are university trained psychologists, social workers or counsellors. They are registered members of their respective professional organisations and are accountable to a strict code of ethical standards. They have extensive experience working across the vocational education and training sector.
Confidentiality
All contact with a counsellor at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE is confidential.
Any record of counselling visits is kept secure. They do not become part of your student records. No details of your records are released to any other person without your written permission.
Exceptions include:

counsellors' information can be used in court proceedings if subpoenaed as counsellor's records have no legal privilege and
-
limited confidentiality applies if there is a disclosure of risk of harm to yourself, to others, or a criminal matter.
These conditions are very rare but it is important that you know that they exist.
The Counselling Services policy in relation to Confidentiality is in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the TAFE Privacy Procedures for Institute Counsellors - TAFE Institute Privacy Procedure 2005.
At times research is undertaken to evaluate our service. The data used in this research are for statistical purposes only and no individual is identified.
