Recognition of prior learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) combines any previous formal studies with your life and work experiences to provide a picture of your current skills.

RPL can be used to identify any gap training needed to complete a qualification.

Assumed knowledge

Entry into a TAFE course is possible with assumed knowledge - where specific knowledge and a background in the subject helps to understand study material.

You must have basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills.

Students without the stated assumed knowledge may be required to complete bridging studies either before or after enrolment.

The Assumed Knowledge scheme applies to all TAFE courses offered through Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) enforcing prerequisites as an entry requirement.

The Assumed Knowledge scheme does not apply to courses with folio or audition or dexterity needs.

Courses such as Nursing will retain the legislative age requirements currently enforced.

Talk to your Faculty RPL Co-ordinator at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE about applying this scheme to your circumstance.
