Information for indigenous people

At Gold Coast Institute of TAFE we seek to increase the participation and successful completion rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in TAFE courses. This is in conjunction with our Indigenous Community Advisory Board (ICAB) who meet regularly to discuss funding and identify training needs and opportunities for local indigenous communities and students.

At Gold Coast Institute of TAFE culturally appropriate courses and support are offered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Read what Julie Johnson had to say.

"Throughout my life I have always been interested in the welfare of others and... I decided I could make a difference... I was fortunate to meet the Indigenous Support Officer from Gold Coast Institute of TAFE, who provided me with the confidence and guidance I needed to follow my dream. During my course... I formed strong links and relationships with my community. I also developed a support network with my class... I am particularly grateful from the level of support I received at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE... This includes learning support, Julie Johnson - Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander student of the year. indigenous support and the knowledge and skills shared by my teachers."
