Competency based assessment
Gold Coast Institute of TAFE uses competencies as the basis for assessment in all programs. In order to pass your program and be considered competent in your chosen study area you must complete all the requirements of your program to the specified industry standard.
-
Assessed according to current industry standards
-
Marked as either competent (J) or not yet competent (M)
All unit grades and program awards will be forwarded to you upon completion of study at no charge. Contact our Customer Service Centre if you have not received your grades or award within three weeks of completion of study.
Please note: Students with outstanding fee payments will not be eligible to receive their grades or awards until the account has been paid in full.
It is essential that all students are familiar with our student assessment policy.
PLA
In some programs an additional grade is added to the 'competent' result to identify a high level of achievement.
A PLA result can give a student a Credit, Distinction or High Distinction level on their competency grade.
Vocational placement
Learning at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE is about gaining industry skills and experience along with a qualification. Students learn from industry professionals in real work situations and are assessed on their performance. The vocational placement element varies from program to program as students either get placed with an employer in the industry or get their experience working in one of our training facilities that are open to the public such as the Style Academy hairdressing and beauty salons, Visions fine dining restaurant or the Academy of Natural Therapies massage clinics.
