IELTS application process

Apply to sit for an IELTS test

Choose your exam dates.
- Fill out an application.
- Address your application to the IELTS Co-ordinator. Post your application to the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE. Click here for our contact details.
- You will be sent a confirmation letter in the week before the exam. If we are unable to accommodate your requested exam date, we will include you in the following exam and confirm this in writing or by telephone.
- Results will be posted thirteen days after the exam. Any enquiries about your results must be received in writing within six weeks of your exam date.
The IELTS application
Your IELTS application must include the following details:

A fully completed Candidate application form. Download the 'Candidate application form' and 'IELTS Information for Candidates 2006' from the IELTS website

A fully completed IELTS Test GST Identifier form. This form determines how much you pay for the test. The application will not be processed without it. Download the IELTS Test GST Identifier form [PDF 44kb]

Two identical passport sized photographs (no older than six months)

A photocopy of your passport. Bring to the test the passport indicated on the application form. If your passport has expired, please include a copy of the extension date.

A cheque or money order made out to "GCIT-IELTS" or your credit card details completed on the IELTS Test GST Identifier.

Your IELTS application must be received at least two weeks before your selected exam dates.

Late entries will not be accepted.

The exam fee is non-refundable.

If you cancel outside of five weeks of the exam date, you will be charged a cancellation fee. This cancellation fee is 25% of your exam fee.

There is a $70 charge for anybody who wishes to transfer test dates outside the 5 week period.

If you cancel or transfer test dates within five weeks of the exam date, you will not receive a refund. You will only receive a refund if you can provide satisfactory evidence of serious illness or serious cause, for example, bereavement or trauma. In this case you must fill out a Request for Refund form. You can pick this up from the IELTS Office, Level 3A, Gold Coast Institute of TAFE, Southport Campus. The Request for Refund form must be lodged no later than 5 working days after the exam date, together with appropriate documentation and/or evidence, for example, a certificate from a qualified medical practitioner, a death certificate or a police report.

To register on a different date within five weeks of your exam date, you must pay the exam fee again.
