Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)

This program is provided by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs for newly arrived migrants.
- Students must apply within 3 months of arrival in Australia
- Students must begin classes within 12 months of arrival in Australia
- No cost for eligible permanent residents and some eligible temporary residents (in some cases off-shore fees may apply)
- Up to 510 hours of English language training (eligible refugees may get up to 610 hours)
- Beginner to intermediate level only (Certificate in Spoken and Written English levels I - III)

Formal classes
- Fully qualified English as a Second Language teachers
- Tutors in class for extra support
- Full-time and part-time options
- Choice of Southport or Coolangatta campus
- Evening classes offered at Southport campus
Volunteer Tutor Support Scheme
- Trained Volunteer Tutors assist students to improve their English
- One-on-one tutoring sessions
- Meet at the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE or at the student's home
- Minimium of 2 hours per week
Independent Learning Centre
- Free of charge for all AMEP students
- Located at Southport campus
- Computer access
- Internet access
- English language software, books, magazines and newspapers
- Learning support from teachers and tutors
