When you choose to study the Diploma of Screen and Media at GCIT you will be entering the creative and high tech world of digital content creation, where quality content for the ever increasing number of digital viewing platforms is in high demand.  The course is structured into 3 main areas; Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production for a variety of project types including video production and 3D animation.

Our new Coomera Campus boasts industry standard production facilities including video editing suites, sound recording studios, a large multi-purpose Black Box Theatre (sound stage) for video production and OptiTrack 3D Motion Capture System along with a wide variety of high definition video cameras and other production equipment. Our classrooms are also fitted out with professional, industry certified Dell Precision and Apple Mac Pro workstations.

Entry requirements

The following recommended entry requirements are historically indicative of a successful application thus demonstrating the applicant's ability to cope with the program workload:

  • Completion of Year 12
  • Prior industry experience

Basic computer skills should include:

  • A reasonable working knowledge of the PC Windows and/or MAC OS environment
  • File management
    • Ability to logically organise files in directories
    • File creation, saving and version control
    • Utilisation of internal and external storage devices
  • Internet skills including searching, emailing, opening and saving of attachments
  • Basic word processing
  • Application help menu utilisation

Applicants must have literacy and numeracy skill level equivalent to Level 3 of the National Reporting System: http://www.nrs.deewr.gov.au/litnum/index.htm

Delivery Method

This course is delivered full-time for 12 months (2 semesters) at Coomera Campus.  Enrolments are by semester only. Students are required to re-enrol prior to the start of each semester.

A combination of face-to-face and tutorial sessions is offered at GCIT as delivery techniques for theory and practical sessions involving small groups and individual activities. Where possible, sessions are conducted within a simulated workplace environment. The computer labs are equipped with Apple Workstations, Windows and Dell Precision Workstations.

A CUF40107 Certificate IV in Screen and Media has been embedded into this program. Students may achieve their Certificate IV upon successful completion of all the required units within the first 6 months of study.  To complete the Diploma of Screen and Media it will take 12 months full-time enrolling by semester.  This course comprises 6 months for the Certificate IV and 6 months for the Diploma. 

This course is Austudy approved for full-time study.

  • 1 x 1TB external hard drive to store/backup all class project files and learning resources (approx $200)

For all new Certificate IV students
Registration: Between 8.30am-9.00am (outside the Auditorium on Level 1).  Orientation: 9.00am-12:00pm on  Friday 5 July 2013 at GCIT Coomera Campus, 198 Foxwell Road, Coomera, Level 1, Auditorium.
