Quality at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE
In 2002, Gold Coast Institute of TAFE received certification of meeting the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Assurance standard. This standard is recognised internationally and assists the institute to achieve continuous improvement in performance and customer satisfaction.
To meet customers' expectations, the institute has implemented a quality system which relies on three processes:
-
Feedback systems including a customer complaint system, annual staff, student and industry surveys and internal self-assessment;
-
Procedures to cover all core business and support processes for consistency of practice, and
-
Document management systems to ensure staff can access current and accurate information - all current procedures and forms are available via the administration network and on the Intranet.
Through the institute's internal audit system, most procedures are audited at least once per year to ensure accuracy and that staff are following them. In addition to this NCSI (NATA Certification Services International) audit the institute every year; our certification to ISO 9001 is dependent on the success of these audits.
Quality Policy
Gold Coast Institute of TAFE is committed to producing highly skilled graduates who make a positive difference. Our aim is to be the leader in Customer Service standards across the Australian training and education industry. We are committed to working in partnership with our students, corporate clients, suppliers, industry groups and the wider community to provide our clients with the latest knowledge and skills required in today's workplaces as well as the emerging needs for the future.
We meet and exceed the requirements of several best practice business management standards such as the international ISO9001:2000 standard for quality management and the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Our Executive Management team and staff are committed to the GCIT Values, as well as applying the following principles to achieve our business objectives and high quality outcomes from everything we do:
1. Caring for our clients: GCIT's success is dependent on the ongoing satisfaction of our clients. GCIT maintains strong, effective two-way communication channels with our clients to help us identify and meet their current and future needs, closely monitoring satisfaction levels and success rates with the services we provide by using our REACT model for customer service.
2. A focus on core business: We ensure that all initiatives undertaken within GCIT's Quality Management System and corporate services support the effective and efficient delivery of our core business - quality vocational education and training;
3. Effective planning and leadership: GCIT's leaders work to develop a clear purpose and direction for our future (aligned to DETA priorities) that all GCIT employees can understand and support.
4. Involvement and development of our people: GCIT employees are encouraged to undertake self-development activities and utilise their skills and experience to contribute to the future growth and success of GCIT's clients and themselves. We offer strong communication channels and regular opportunities for staff to develop and contribute to improvement initiatives.
5. A 'systematic' process-based approach to continuous improvement and compliance management: GCIT continues to document, monitor and improve our key business processes to meet the needs of our clients. The relationships between GCIT processes and the overall health of our quality system is monitored and analysed to ensure that the quality system 'as a whole' contributes to the achievement of our core business goals, generates ongoing improvement and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements;
6. Factual approach to decision making: We use reliable data, wherever possible, to guide and prioritise our planning, risk management, decision making and improvement activities.
7. Mutually beneficial supplier relationships: GCIT seeks to develop effective relationships with our suppliers, to ensure that such partnerships create value for all parties and maintain a high quality of service for our clients.
We measure our success through sustainable business growth built on the satisfaction and success of our clients.
Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard (AVETMISS)
Vocational Education Training (VET) providers for data quality, as published by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research, must meet the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Stastistical Standard (AVETMISS).
Gold Coast Institute of TAFE is responsible for management of enrolment data quality and is required to submit AVETMISS data for all modular enrolments for training completed (resulted training) and training in progress (non-resulted training).
Accordingly, Gold Coast Institute of TAFE initiates and maintains a program of data quality measurement and exception management, through an appropriate data audit schedule.
The audit process, verifying student participation and assessment involves internal audits and external audits consisting of 200 Commonwealth/State funded student module enrolments.
Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
The key objective of the AQTF is to provide the basis for a nationally consistent, high quality vocational education and training system. The standards of the Australian Quality Training Framework are divided into two parts:
-
Standards for Registered Training Organisations and
-
Standards for State and Territory Registering/Course Accrediting Bodies.
The AQTF ensures that all Registered Training Organisations and the qualifications they issue are recognised throughout Australia. The framework:
-
raises, and more clearly specifies, requirements of registered training organizations
-
improves auditing arrangements
-
introduces standards and agreed processes for State and Territory registering/course accrediting bodies.
Clearer and nationally consistent auditing of the training and assessment activities is synonymous with quality and confidence in vocational education and training, ensuring improved outcomes for learners and other VET system clients.
